A Last Word from Design Intern Zach Sable

“Interning at Hey Now! Media not only taught me the importance of skill and precision when doing creative work, but how purpose and intention should guide everything that you do when creating and articulating a vision. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the summer.”

This summer I had the opportunity to be a part of the Hey Now! Media team as the design intern . I have had both personal and professional growth in a field that I’m passionate about. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to broaden my skill-set regarding purposeful graphic design, content editing, social media engagement, and strategic branding while working alongside creative and knowledgeable specialists.

As a college student studying Electronic Media and Marketing, I felt that working for an agency that specializes in branding and that utilizes multi-media would be the perfect internship opportunity. Last summer, I worked as a social-media intern for Hey Now! Media, managing their Facebook and Twitter accounts, and organizing promotional campaigns and contests online. When I approached Matt Brower during my Spring Break about returning to Hey Now!, I asked to do something a little bit more hands on and directly involved with the branding projects. Matt allowed me to come on as a design intern, directly creating and editing designs that would later be used by clients.

I spent my Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays this summer learning about design principles, brand strategy, and the importance of mission and vision as the backbone of any creative project. Additionally, I was able to hone in on general professional skills including time management, accountability, and networking, amongst others. Since working for Hey Now!, I was able to elevate my design and professional skills to an entirely new level through utilizing them in a professional rather than classroom setting.

Throughout this fifteen-week internship, I worked on my very own brand development project, in which I would create a fictitious business from scratch, and organize all aspects of it’s branding, including its brand strategy, values, mission, vision, colors, logos, typography, and more. The goal was to understand the factors that go into making a living, breathing, and organic brand. This project was instrumental in getting a first-hand and holistic experience for the process of developing a brand from the ground up and allowed me to see the culmination of many different factors into one finished product.

Interning at Hey Now! Media not only taught me the importance of skill and precision when doing creative work, but how purpose and intention should guide everything that you do when creating and articulating a vision. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the summer.
